In Rivne, an investigation has been completed into the murder of a 27-year-old Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier, which, according to law enforcement officials, was orchestrated by the Russian secret services. The accused is a 14-year-old local girl who first spiked the soldier’s drink with a narcotic substance and, after he lost consciousness, strangled him on the instructions of a handler from the Russian Federation.
According to Censor.NET, this information was provided by the Rivne regional police.
According to the investigation, the minor met a Russian citizen on Telegram who was acting on the instructions of an FSB officer. The man suggested she kill a Ukrainian soldier by poisoning him with methadone.
Law enforcement officers established that the girl had feelings for her handler. Taking advantage of this, he promised to arrange for her to travel to territory controlled by Russia once the task was completed.
She poisoned the soldier and then strangled him during a video call
On 30 January, the minor went to a rented flat, where she prepared alcoholic drinks and added a narcotic substance to them, which she had previously received from the clients via a logistics company.
A 27-year-old soldier subsequently arrived at the flat. The girl had met him on a messaging app about ten days before the crime.
After consuming the alcohol laced with methadone, the man lost consciousness.
According to the investigation, the minor was on a video call with a Russian handler and, on his direct instructions, began to strangle the soldier. The victim died of mechanical asphyxiation.
Criminal investigation officers arrested the girl. The court ordered her to be remanded in custody.
The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the indictment for the murder, committed on the orders of and by prior conspiracy of a group of individuals, has been sent to court.
The minor faces up to 15 years’ imprisonment.
Previously, a young woman set fire to a military vehicle on the orders of the Russian Federation
During the investigation, law enforcement officers established the accused’s involvement in another crime carried out on behalf of the Russian side.
According to police, on 11 November she set fire to an Opel Campo military vehicle in Rivne. She was promised a thousand dollars for carrying out the task, but the young woman never received the money.
A separate criminal case against the minor, relating to high treason under martial law, obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the deliberate destruction of property by arson, has also been referred to court.
In addition, investigators have identified the Russian handler and the organiser of the contract killing. The case files relating to them are being handled by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).
The crimes were documented by investigators and police operatives from the Rivne region, in collaboration with the SSU’s military counter-intelligence unit, under the procedural supervision of the Rivne Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
