Drone attack on the Ukhta Oil Refinery on October 9 – explosions heard in the Komi Republic

On the morning of October 9, drones attacked the Russian city of Ukhta in the Komi Republic, located approximately 1,700 km from the Ukrainian border. According to monitoring sources, a Lukoil oil refinery was hit. Local residents heard explosions and saw black smoke rising above the city.

According to Censor.NET, Russian media outlets report this, citing Russian authorities.

Air raid sirens went off during the attack in Ukhta. Residents reported hearing explosions and gunfire, and videos of drones in the sky and plumes of black smoke began circulating on social media.

The target of the attack was the "Lukoil-Ukhtaneftepererabotka" plant, known as the Ukhta oil refinery.

There is currently no official confirmation that the facility was hit, nor is there any information on the extent of possible damage.

The airport in Ukhta was closed, and a drone hazard was declared

At around 8:30 a.m., Rosaviatsiya announced temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures at Ukhta Airport.

At the same time, local authorities declared a drone hazard alert.

Mayor Marina Meteleva stated that the situation is under control. At the same time, the Komi Republic’s Anti-Terrorism Commission reported that drones had been destroyed in the Ukhta area.

What is known about the attacked oil refinery

The "Lukoil-Ukhta Oil Refinery" is one of Russia's oil refineries.

In 2025, it processed about 3 million metric tons of crude oil, accounting for approximately 1.1% of Russia's total crude oil refining volume.

The plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and vacuum gas oil.

This is not the first reported drone attack on the facility.
