Bipartisan US congressional delegation arrives in Ukraine

US lawmakers visit Ukraine, plan meeting with Zelenskyy

A bipartisan delegation from the US Congress is visiting Ukraine. Its members include Republican US Senator Roger Wicker, who chairs the US Senate Armed Services Committee; Republican Senator Kevin Cramer, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee; Representative Marc Veasey of Texas’s 33rd Congressional District (Democrat); and Representative Dan Crenshaw of Texas’s 2nd Congressional District.

The members of Congress reportedly held meetings with Ukrainian officials today. A meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also planned.

Putin is an aggressor and a war criminal

"We appreciate this opportunity and hope to gain important information and an understanding of the situation. I want to note that the determination of the Ukrainian people is abundantly clear. I have been deeply impressed by the resilience of the people resisting the illegal actions of one individual — Vladimir Putin. In this situation, Vladimir Putin is the aggressor. He is a war criminal in many respects, and that is the position from which we must proceed," Wicker said.

The members of Congress also met with employees of Ukrainian manufacturing enterprises. Wicker said he was very impressed by the workers’ dedication "and by how thousands of people are working hard for the good of their country, resisting an act that is completely illegal."

"I hope this visit – like the dozens of others that have already taken place or will take place – will contribute to significant progress in addressing a range of issues," he added.

Ukraine’s experience

Meanwhile, Cramer said the United States is taking Ukraine’s experience into account, particularly the work of its defense industry, its efficiency, its ability to innovate rapidly and its "incredible response to enemy weapons."

"It is about scale and speed, which truly are decisive; we, as the strongest nation in the world, look at this with a certain degree of envy and would like to adopt this experience. At the same time, it reminded me that we need each other and that, frankly, we can learn no less from the Ukrainian people than they can from us," he noted.

Cramer stressed that members of Congress must do everything possible to help Ukraine as quickly and effectively as possible.

"When they need assistance, and I know exactly what they are asking for, we seek to ensure its rapid delivery and implementation. So that the Russians cannot carry out new invasions and so that there are no delays. And also so that Ukraine can take the necessary defensive or offensive measures to repel Putin’s illegal invasion," he emphasized.

For his part, Congressman Crenshaw said this was his third visit and that he was "once again reminded why he continues to support our cause in Ukraine."
