On the night of 10 October, drones attacked Rostov-on-Don and other towns and villages in the Rostov Region of Russia. Following a series of explosions in the city, a major fire broke out at an oil loading terminal. There are also reports of damage to residential buildings and a railway bridge.

On the night of Friday 10 October, residents of Rostov-on-Don heard a series of explosions. This was followed by a major fire in the city, which was captured on video by eyewitnesses.
According to Astra and Exilenova+, an oil terminal involved in the transhipment of petroleum products may have been hit. However, reports from sources mention different names for the facility – the ‘Yug Rus’ terminal and the Novoshakhtinsk Petroleum Products Plant terminal. There is no official confirmation regarding the specific facility that was struck.
Yuriy Slyusar, Governor of the Rostov Region, confirmed the drone attack and the fire in Rostov-on-Don.
"Rostov has come under an enemy air attack. A fire has broken out. There are no casualties. Emergency services are working at the scene," he said.
According to Astra, the "Yug Rus" terminal is used for the storage and transhipment of petroleum products, including for export. Its design capacity is approximately 2.5 million tonnes per year.
The Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant, for its part, is one of the largest oil refineries in southern Russia. Products are shipped via its oil loading terminal for onward transport.
The extent of the damage and the impact of the attack on the facilities’ operations are currently being assessed.
Damage to a railway bridge has been reported in the Rostov Region
According to reports on the aftermath of the night-time attack, a railway bridge in the Rostov region has also been damaged. Train services in both directions have been suspended, and emergency services are working at the scene.
There is currently no independent confirmation of the circumstances surrounding the damage to the bridge or the duration of the transport restrictions.
Residential buildings damaged in Rostov and Bataysk
During a night-time attack in Rostov-on-Don, damage was reported to several blocks of flats in various parts of the city. There are reports of fires and the evacuation of residents.
In Bataysk, Rostov Oblast, a drone reportedly struck an unoccupied high-rise building in a residential complex, causing a fire.
