Kyiv is strengthening energy self-sufficiency of its water supply: 27 MW has already been secured, with further 40 MW in pipeline. PHOTOS
Work is continuing in Kyiv to establish a backup power supply for the water supply system in the event of power cuts. At present, the facilities have 27 MW of backup capacity, with a further 40 MW currently being implemented.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the press office of ‘Kyivvodokanal’.
27 megawatts of backup power have already been secured
"The capital’s water supply system consists of facilities of varying capacities, including those that consume very large amounts of energy. At present, facilities with low or medium capacity are equipped with generators. In total, as far as the water supply system is concerned, 27 megawatts of backup power has been secured," the water utility reported.
Construction of specialised power stations is underway
Construction is currently underway on special high-capacity power stations specifically for water supply facilities. A third of the work has already been completed, with a further 40 megawatts of capacity currently under development. This project is a priority and will be completed by the end of the year.
"We would like to draw the attention of residents of high-rise buildings to the fact that water pressure on the upper floors is usually maintained by additional booster stations, which take time to start up and will not operate in the absence of electricity. Such booster stations do not fall within the remit of Kyivvodokanal," the company emphasised.
