A fire broke out in the teaching block of Rivne State University of Humanities as a result of an enemy attack.
This was reported on Facebook by the Minister of Education and Science, Andrii Butenko, according to Censor.NET.
What are the consequences?
According to preliminary reports, the premises of the Faculty of Musical Arts have been almost completely gutted by fire. The blaze has been extinguished, and clearance of the rubble is ongoing.
Staff were affected
According to the university, all students were in shelters. There are casualties among the university’s administrative staff.
"The damaged building is unfit for teaching and requires reconstruction. Neighbouring teaching blocks have also been affected: in particular, windows have been smashed. The full extent of the damage is being assessed. The university is considering switching entirely to distance learning by the end of this week. Going forward, the organisation of the educational process will be determined taking into account available premises and safe locations.
Our priority is people’s safety and ensuring the conditions for continuing education. Students and university staff must receive the necessary support. Russia continues to deliberately target educational institutions. This is a deliberate act of terror against the civilian population and yet another attempt to disrupt the educational process in the country," the minister emphasised.
What led up to this?
As reported, Russian forces attacked the centre of Rivne, striking an educational institution: 20 people were injured.
