Russian drone damaged large-scale art project ’Cosmogony’ in Lutsk. VIDEO

The Korsaks’ Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art was damaged as a result of the Russian attack in Lutsk. After debris from a jet-powered drone fell, a fire broke out at the ‘Adrenaline City’ cultural and entertainment centre, damaging part of the large-scale art project ‘Cosmogony’.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the museum’s founder, Viktor Korsak, who posted an update on the museum’s condition on Facebook.

According to him, the fire was successfully contained. The blaze damaged one-sixth of the ‘Cosmogony’ project, created by artist Petro Antyp in collaboration with Viktor Korsak.

Work on the six-part art project took two years.

The damaged part of "Cosmogony" symbolised the future

The museum’s founder explained that the project’s concept was an attempt to reflect on the origins of humanity, its purpose and its future.

It was the last, sixth part of the composition, dedicated to the future, that was damaged as a result of the Russian attack.

"Part of the future from the ‘Cosmogony’ project has already been destroyed today. And this raises the question of whether it is even possible to destroy the future," noted Korsak.

He described it as symbolic that it was precisely this part of the work that had suffered as a result of the war, which has altered the future of Ukrainians.

The museum’s founder is currently considering whether to restore the damaged installation or to leave it as it is, as a testament to the consequences of Russian aggression.

"Whether to rebuild this future, or to leave it as it is for future generations, so that it serves as a reminder of what war is and what it leads to," explained Korsak.

The final decision on the future of the damaged part of the project will be made jointly with the artist Petro Antyp.

The museum will remain open

According to Viktor Korsak, the museum’s other exhibition halls remained intact, and the works of art housed there were unharmed.

Despite the consequences of the Russian attack, the Korsaks’ Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art will continue to operate and carry out new art projects.
