Yaryna Nishtuk, a servicewoman from Lviv, was killed defending Ukraine in the Kramatorsk sector. A Russian FPV drone strike took her life.
Her friend Viktoriia Panchuk and Oriyana Lyceum, where she studied, reported her death, according to Censor.NET.
What is known?
Yaryna Nishtuk graduated from Oriyana Lyceum in 2019. After the full-scale war began, she decided to join the defence of Ukraine.
According to her friend, she was initially turned away because she was "barely a metre and a half tall and weighed 40 kilograms".
She first attended military training courses, studied tactical medicine and learned to operate drones and unmanned ground vehicles.
She was a commander
- More than two years ago, Yaryna went to the Donetsk region as a volunteer and stayed to serve in the military. She commanded the 2nd Attack Unmanned Aircraft Systems Platoon of the 2nd Company, 1st Unmanned Aircraft Systems Battalion, Military Unit A5175.
Yaryna’s friend Viktoriia Panchuk dedicated a post to her, recalling their school years, shared moments and the servicewoman’s path to becoming a commander.
"You found your place and gave yourself to it completely. Six months ago, I visited you there, in the east. I saw how people listened to you, respected you, and came to you for decisions. How that same metre-and-a-half-tall girl they once did not want to take had become a commander people trusted. I looked at you and thought: ‘You are so amazing.’ And I am so proud of you. It feels like only yesterday we were making plans to go out after school, and today I was getting ready to go to your mother to tell her you had been killed…" Viktoriia wrote.
On October 8, Yaryna was killed in an enemy FPV drone strike in the Kramatorsk sector.
The date and time of the farewell ceremony for Yaryna will be announced later. A fundraiser has been launched to provide financial support to her family and help cover her funeral expenses.
