Bulgarian Prime Minister Radev stated there is lack of evidence regarding Russian attacks on vessels in Black Sea

Bulgaria suspects Russia of attacks on vessels but lacks evidence

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that Sofia currently has no conclusive evidence of Russia’s involvement in the attacks that caused several ships to sink off the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. At the same time, he acknowledged that the circumstances of the incidents point to the likely involvement of the Russian Federation.

According to Censor.NET, citing "European Truth," Radev made this statement before the start of the EU summit.

"We have some suspicions, and I expressed these suspicions to the Russian ambassador, whom I summoned. After all, it simply doesn't make sense for Ukraine to attack ships carrying its own grain. However, we have no concrete evidence that these drones are Russian," said the Bulgarian prime minister.

However, Radev noted that evidence may emerge later.

"We're doing everything we can; we've examined one of the surviving ships, and we sent a team there—but they didn't find anything. We hope to find debris from the drone on the CHELSEA 3 once we bring it into the dock, and then we hope to have solid evidence," he explained.

Radev fears the consequences of a possible Russian attack

The Bulgarian prime minister expressed concern about the possible consequences of confirming Russian involvement, as this would mean an attack by Russia on the territory of a NATO member country.

"When we talk about an attack on a particular country, we must present substantial and clear evidence. We have stated very clearly that we do not want to be involved in this war. But it stands to reason that the attack originated in Russia, because its results benefit Russia. This is very, very reminiscent of a terrorist act, which is a cause for great concern," the prime minister added.

What happened before?

On October 13, in the Black Sea, approximately 33 kilometers off the coast of Bulgaria, drones attacked the vessel Chelsea 3, which had seven Ukrainians on board. All 15 crew members were rescued, while another vessel sank after being struck by the drones.
