Russia is changing its tactics for attacks on energy sector, - Shmyhal

Shmyhal spoke about Russia’s new tactic for attacks on the energy sector

Russia has begun employing a new tactic to strike Ukraine's power grid. Russian drones equipped with high-explosive charges are damaging power poles and transmission lines. Energy officials are developing countermeasures.

According to Censor.NET, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal stated this during Question Time with the government in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the minister, Russia is changing its attack tactics, but its strategic goal remains the same—to deprive Ukrainians of electricity, water, and heat.

"They are using new weapons: new drones equipped with high-explosive charges, which, unfortunately, are effectively damaging power poles and cutting down power lines. They are doing this systematically and continuously. You see dozens of drone attacks on the power grid every day," Shmyhal noted.

Kyiv is particularly hard hit by attacks on its energy infrastructure

The head of the Ministry of Energy assured that large energy facilities—whose restoration requires significant effort and time—are currently protected. At the same time, due to extensive damage, energy workers are forced to carry out repair work on an ongoing basis.

According to Shmyhal, the repairs themselves usually do not take much time, but their large number affects the operation of the power grid and the electricity supply to cities.

"There are so many of them that, of course, our cities are feeling the impact, especially Kyiv," the minister explained, adding that the capital is under constant Russian attack.

Energy officials are developing countermeasures

Shmyhal emphasized that energy sector officials are taking into account the change in Russian troops' tactics and are quickly developing ways to counter the new threats.

At the same time, the minister did not disclose any details regarding specific security measures, explaining that this information is classified.
