Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever announced his decision to resign during a meeting with King Philippe.

"The King has received Bart De Wever in audience. The Prime Minister has offered his resignation following the failed budget negotiations," the statement says.
It is noted that the King has not yet made a decision and will begin consultations with the leaders of the parliamentary majority parties starting tomorrow.
"The king expressed regret that the parties were unable to reach an agreement on a realistic budget that would address current challenges. Amid significant geopolitical uncertainty and serious economic challenges, the country cannot afford a prolonged political crisis.
Therefore, the King calls on everyone to act responsibly and urges all parties involved to prioritize the public interest and a willingness to compromise," the statement added.
On Friday, November 6, 2026, the King will meet with the Prime Minister again.
