Ruscists strike school and shelter in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region: 24 killed, 5 injured. VIDEO&PHOTOS

Russian aircraft struck the settlement of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region with aerial bombs on 2 November, hitting a school where humanitarian aid was being distributed and a shelter with people inside. Fatalities have been reported.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this on social media, Censor.NET reports.

What is known about the strike

  • According to the president, the settlement has suffered several aerial bomb strikes since the morning, including one on a school being used for humanitarian purposes. Aid was being distributed to people there. The initial strike was followed by another involving nine bombs, specifically targeting the shelter where people were gathered.
  • According to information from Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration head Mykhailo Semikin, 27 people are considered missing.
  • Russian forces struck the centre of the settlement with at least nine FAB-3000 guided aerial bombs. A police officer and two State Emergency Service rescuers were among those killed.

"As of now, sadly, eighteen people are known to have been killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Five people have been injured. A rescue operation is underway at the scene, and the search for people continues. It is very difficult. Military personnel, rescue workers, and personnel from the special services are involved," Zelenskyy said.

"Russia is counting on further killings"

According to him, the Russians could not have been unaware that local residents who remained in Komyshuvakha received humanitarian aid at that very location every week.

"And this is further proof that Russia wants no de-escalation and no real justice," the president stressed.

He recalled that, following the humanitarian operation in Oleshky, there was a moment when further steps could have shown that progress towards peace was possible.

"Through killings like these, Russia is sending the exact opposite signal — Russia is counting on further killings," he said.

Zelenskyy called for a global response: "There must be a response to this, a response from the world. A strong and tough response. A response to Russia. And support for Ukraine. Lives must be protected. Thank you to everyone who is helping!"

  • The State Emergency Service clarified that the death toll from the Russian strikes had risen to 24, including two rescuers and four police officers. Another five people were injured, including two rescuers. Rescue operations are ongoing.
