Power supply situation in Kyiv extremely difficult, says Klitschko

Kyiv sets up warming centres amid severe power supply crisis

Russian attacks have left the capital facing an extremely difficult power supply situation. Warming centres are being set up in areas worst affected by power outages.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported this, according to Censor.NET.

Details

"The power supply situation in Kyiv is extremely difficult. The enemy continues to destroy Ukraine’s unified power system. Both power generation and transmission infrastructure have been damaged across the country. Attacks in recent days have also damaged facilities at the Kyiv regional power hub. Ukrenergo has therefore introduced emergency power cuts. Energy workers are working to restore power," the statement reads.

The emergency has disrupted water supplies and electric public transport services in the capital.

Kyivvodokanal specialists are currently doing everything possible to stabilise voltage in the system and restore water supplies.

"Warming centres are being set up in areas of the city worst affected by power outages, where residents will be able to charge their phones and other devices and have some hot tea," the mayor wrote.

Background

  • Earlier reports said emergency power cuts were in effect in Kyiv and the region following damage to facilities at the Kyiv regional power hub caused by Russian attacks.
  • Ukrenergo said that one of the enemy’s largest attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure began overnight on 3 November and was still underway. Today’s attacks have further worsened the situation in the power system.
