Ukraine’s accession to EU will protect Moldova from Russia; we are not competing with Kyiv, - Balutel, chairman of Moldovan Parliament’s Committee on European Integration

Moldova does not view accession to the European Union as a competition with Ukraine. On the contrary, Ukraine’s EU membership is of key importance for Moldova’s security and its protection against Russia.
This was stated by Adrian Balutel, chairman of the Moldovan Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, during the EU Accession Exchange Forum, according to Censor.NET, citing "European Pravda."
"For Moldova, Ukraine's European integration is the most important factor in ensuring our security. Look at the map: if Ukraine becomes part of the EU, we will be protected from Russia—just as we are protected now thanks to the sacrifices Ukraine is making in the war," the politician emphasized.
According to Balutel, Chisinau is ready to support Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership and counts on mutual support.
He also refuted the widespread belief that Ukraine and Moldova are competing to see which country can join the EU first.
"There's a narrative that this is a race, but that's not the case. For me, it's more like a race against time to join the EU as quickly as possible," Balutel explained.
The politician emphasized that Moldova is striving to join the European Union as soon as possible in order to strengthen its geopolitical security. At the same time, he believes that the two countries’ European integration processes should proceed in close cooperation.
