Vance named war with Iran as main reason for Republicans’ election defeat

J.D. Vance attributed the Republicans’ failure to a war with Iran

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance cited the war with Iran as the main reason for the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm congressional elections. He stated that some of the voters who supported Donald Trump in 2024 voted for the Democrats this time around.

This is stated in a post by J.D. Vance on the social media platform X, which was highlighted by the publication Censor.NET.

Vance explained why voters have turned away from the Republicans

According to the vice president, the defeat was not due to low voter turnout among Republican Party supporters. Some of the voters who supported Trump and Vance in the 2024 election changed their minds and cast their votes for the Democrats.

Vance cited Florida as an example. According to him, the number of voters who supported the Republicans there was nine percentage points higher than the number of Democratic supporters. This result differs only slightly from the figure in the 2024 election.

The vice president also discussed the results of a survey of former Trump voters who switched to the Democratic Party. They most frequently cited four reasons for their decision: the desire to end the war, to focus on the cost of living and inflation, to put U.S. interests first, and to change the country’s relationship with Israel.

"Our voters turned out at the polls. And these four reasons explain why so many of them voted for the Democrats," Vance wrote.

The vice president called on the party to start a conversation about the war

Vens emphasized that the main reason for the Republicans' failure was precisely the war with Iran. He noted that President Donald Trump had also spoken about this the day before.

According to the vice president, those who believe U.S. involvement in the conflict is justified—even at the cost of losing control of the Senate for the next six years—should openly explain their position.

Vance also warned of possible disputes within the Republican Party over the reasons for the defeat. He criticized the idea of amnesty for undocumented immigrants as a way to regain voter support.

At the same time, the vice president suggested possible changes to immigration policy. In particular, he mentioned the possibility of imposing stricter penalties on companies that hire undocumented workers.
