Pistorius sees no prospects for quick truce between Ukraine and Russia

Pistorius does not believe in a quick truce between Ukraine and Russia.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is skeptical about the prospects for a quick ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, despite the trilateral talks scheduled for next week in Abu Dhabi involving the United States, Ukraine, and Russia.

According to Censor.NET, citing ntv, he made this statement in an interview with newspapers belonging to the Funke Media Group.

According to the German minister, the events of recent months give no reason to expect that U.S. President Donald Trump’s approach will quickly lead to a ceasefire or even to peace.

Pistorius noted that the conclusion of a ceasefire depends on the stance of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the subsequent actions of the U.S. president.

At the same time, the minister stressed that an agreement between Russia and the United States at Ukraine’s expense and without its participation is unacceptable both to Kyiv and to its European partners.

What led up to this?

The director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center and former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, John Herbst, stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin agreed to trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi not to achieve peace, but to give the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump a pretext to further distance itself from Kyiv.
