Lutsenko cancels closure of criminal case against rich kid Tolstosheiev

Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko has ordered to revoke the resolution to close the criminal proceedings against 21-year-old Stanislav Tolstosheiev charged with a deadly car accident outside Livoberezhna metro station in Kyiv and make him undergo additional psychiatric examination in a specialized medical institution in another region of Ukraine.

The prosecutor general listened to a report by Kyiv chief prosecutor Roman Hovda who, in particular, noted that according to the results of examinations, including a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric examination, conducted by the Kyiv city center of forensic-psychiatric examination, the car accident occurred after the driver experienced a sudden seizure, lost consciousness and did not control his actions. Given this, Tolstosheiev can not be brought to criminal liability for the violation of traffic safety rules.

According to Lutsenko, these examinations do not explain the cause of driver's sudden seizure and provoke a massive public outcry.

With this in mind and in order to obtain more information about the reasons for the sudden deterioration of Tolstosheiev's condition, it was decided to revoke the resolution to close the case and make the suspect undergo an additional psychiatric examination in a specialized medical institution in another region of Ukraine.

As previously reported, on Jan. 9, 2016, Stanislav Tolstosheiev, son of a Donetsk businessman, drove onto a sidewalk near Livoberezhna metro station in his Mercedes GL, killing one person and injuring three.

On Jan. 13, Tolstosheiev was served an indictment on charges of being involved in a fatal car accident.

On Jan. 15, the culprit was remanded in custody with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 137,000 hryvnia (approx. $5,260).
