The official vessel handover ceremony took place at the port of Saint-Nazaire, France. Egypt concluded a deal with France for the purchase of the Mistral helicopter carriers worth $ 1 billion last year.
The Mistral is capable of carrying vessels and tanks. The Egyptian army is going to use it as its naval command center.
As reported, France initially built two Mistral helicopter carriers for Russia. However, the deal was suspended after the occupation of Crimea in 2014 and completely declared off in August 2015. The French authorities eventually resold the warships to Egypt.
