Mogherini and Lavrov discussed situation in Ukraine

The High Representative of the EU Federica Mogherini held yesterday a phone conversation with the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Mogherini and Lavrov spoke at length about the escalation of violence in eastern Ukraine. HRVP [High Representative /Vice-President of the EU - ed.] stressed the need to stop fighting immediately, and to work for a full implementation of the Minsk agreements," the press release reads.

Minister Lavrov briefed the HRVP Mogherini on the recent talks on Syria in Astana and the HRVP informed the minister of the European initiative with the regional players and on the upcoming Brussels conference on the future of Syria.

They agreed to meet in the coming weeks.
