Avakov asks Cabinet to impose sanctions against Russian Sberbank
The request came amid reports that the bank had recognized passports issued by the breakaway “Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics."
As reported by Censor.NET, at today's meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov called on the government to urgently tackle the issue of imposing sanctions against Sberbank of Russia which started providing services to the customers with passports of the so-called "LPR"/"DPR"."I request to urgently consider imposition of sanctions against this bank. The bank operates in the territory of Ukraine and actually finances the militants," Avakov said.
Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman said that the legal grounds for imposing sanctions against this bank were being verified, and expressed confidence that both the National Bank and the National Security and Defense Council would soon endorse the interior minister's initiative.
