In Kyiv, men abducted and killed foreigner for UAH 7 million in bitcoins - National Police. PHOTOS
Four men kidnapped a foreigner in Kyiv, stole almost UAH 7 million from him and killed him.
This was reported by the Communication Department of the National Police, Censor.NET reports.
"Kyiv police received information about the abduction of a man around midnight. Residents of a house in the Solomianskyi district heard screams and saw several unidentified persons beating and forcing a man into a car. A special police operation was immediately launched in Kyiv and Kyiv region to search for and detain the kidnappers, and all police units and operatives of the Main and Solomianskyi police departments were sent to their location," the statement said.
Later it became known that a 29-year-old foreigner had been kidnapped. It was done by four men aged 24 to 29. The KORD special unit and law enforcement officers detained the perpetrators.
"The offenders were preparing for the crime in advance. They found out that the man had bitcoins worth about seven million hryvnias and decided to take possession of them. The defendants tracked down his address and around midnight, when he was returning home, they beat him, forced him into a car and took him to an abandoned building in Kyiv region. There, they forced the victim to transfer bitcoins to their crypto wallet, and then strangled him. To hide the traces of the crime, they changed the car's licence plates and appearance, took the body to the forest, where they buried it, and cashed in the cryptocurrency," the police added.
Money, cars and other material evidence were seized from the detainees.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under 4 articles of the CCU:
- Art. 115(2)(6) - premeditated murder for mercenary reasons;
- Article 187, part 4 - robbery;
- Article 146(3) - illegal deprivation of liberty committed by an organised group of persons;
- Article 396(1) - concealment of a crime.
The men were notified of suspicion and taken into custody without the right to be released on bail. They face life imprisonment.
