Kateryna Shynkarenko, a sniper with the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, was killed while defending Ukraine, repelling an enemy breakthrough during the retreat of our troops from Avdiivka.
This was reported on Facebook by Yurii Slobozhanskyi, Censor.NET reports.
"I am sad to inform you. Kateryna Shynkarenko, call sign 'Whiskey', Katrusia (familiar first name Katrusia for Kateryna - ed. note), a sniper of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade Sniper Company, awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree, the Golden Cross of the General Staff and the Cross of Valor of the Ministry of Defense - a great sadness on the shield... For always 30," the post reads.
"Died on 22.02.2024, together with a group, while repelling an enemy breakthrough, during the withdrawal of our troops from Avdiivka. Lastochkyne-Severne. The combat situation was such that the bodies were left deep behind enemy lines, without the possibility of evacuation. Only this week we managed to bring them home, and yesterday we completed all the official identification and recovery activities. (Many thanks to those who were involved in the recovery)," adds Slobozhanskyi.
The burial will take place in Ostroh.
Katrusia is survived by her son Denys.
Slobozhanskyi also publishes details for those wishing to financially help the family of the deceased.

As later reported by the Ostroh City Council, the burial of the Heroine will take place on Tuesday, April 16.
"We ask all residents of the Ostroh community to meet the fallen Ukrainian defender Kateryna Shynkarenko with dignity and dignity tomorrow, April 16, with a human corridor. The body of the Heroine will be brought to Ostroh at approximately 12:45-1:00 p.m.," the statement reads.
Details about the funeral of the deceased Kateryna Shynkarenko:
1:00 p.m. - funeral service at St. Nicholas Church (Ostroh);
2:10 p.m. - funeral service on Freedom Square (Ostroh).
The female defender will be buried on the Alley of Heroes
