Photos that define 2024: three Ukrainian photographs were included in Guardian’s list
The Guardian has published a selection of photographs that defined the year 2024. The list includes three photos from Ukraine.

The photo was taken by Kostiantyn Liberov in May in Kharkiv region during the first days of the Russian offensive on Vovchansk.
Tattooed hands of the commander
A photo by Tom Peter taken in eastern Ukraine shows the tattooed arms of 38-year-old sniper support unit commander Roman.
"He left Ukraine years ago and settled in France. He said he had everything he ever dreamed of, but then the war started, and he signed up because he felt he couldn’t look at himself in the mirror if he was sitting this out. So he went back to his home country to fight," the newspaper writes..
Farewell at the memorial to combat medic Iryna Tsybukh

She died on 29 May 2024, during a rotation in the Kharkiv sector at the age of 25. Iryna Tsybukh was a combat medic with the "Hospitallers" volunteer battalion, which provides medical evacuation of soldiers in hot spots on the front line.
