Another agent of Russian military intelligence (better known as the GRU), who operated in Zaporizhzhia, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, adjusting Russian strikes on the city.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, Censor.NET informs.
It is noted that the man was detained in January 2024 when he was preparing a new series of Russian missile and bomb attacks on the city.
Thus, on the instructions of the GRU supervisor, the defendant tried to identify local factories that produce ammunition for rocket and artillery weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Another task of the agent was to search for anti-aircraft missile systems and radar stations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region. This was necessary for the ruscists to plan the routes of their missiles and drones to bypass Ukrainian air defences. The offender planned to get a job at one of the defence plants in Zaporizhzhia to obtain information directly about the storage locations of the manufactured weapons and ammunition.
It was established that to communicate with the enemy, the offender used a sophisticated messenger encryption system developed by his "contact" - a career military encryption specialist of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The SSU exposed the enemy accomplice in advance, documented his crimes and detained him at his place of residence in the regional centre. The offender was an ex-officer of a local unit of the disbanded police, who was remotely recruited by the Russian secret service through his former course mate, an official of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The SSU reported that to gather intelligence, the agent used personal connections and travelled around the city, where he recorded the locations of Ukrainian facilities on his mobile phone camera.
The court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
