Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia: St. Andrew’s Cathedral of UOC-MP damaged. PHOTOS
On Saturday, 18 January, Russian invaders launched rocket attacks on Zaporizhzhia. The attack severely damaged St Andrew's Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP).
This was reported by religious scholar Serhii Shumylo, Censor.NET reports.
"This is the same cathedral in which the local ruling Metropolitan Luka (Kovalenko) still commemorates the Moscow patriarch of unbelief, Kirill Gundyaev, in the third year of the war. Luka is one of the hierarchs of the UOC (MP) who, at the Arch. Council in Feofaniya in May 2022, who categorically opposed the final separation of the UOC from the Moscow Patriarchate," Shumylo said.
Local media outlet 5 Editorial reported that no one was killed in the shelling of the cathedral.
The footage published on the Internet shows serious damage to the cathedral as a result of the ceiling falling, as well as the mutilated facade.
According to Suspilne, priest Yaroslav Popov said that during the Russian attack, a watchman was inside the cathedral - the man was not injured. As a result of the shelling of Zaporizhzhia, the cathedral building was damaged both inside and outside.
A blow to Zaporizhzhia
Censor.NET reported that the enemy attacked an infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhia, 8 people were wounded and houses were damaged.
