On Friday, 7 February, protests against the government of Prime Minister Robert Fico are once again taking place in dozens of Slovak cities. Slovaks living abroad also joined the protests.
This is reported by Aktuality, Censor.NET informs.
The publication notes that the protests covered more than 50 cities in Slovakia.
At rallies under the slogan "Slovakia is Europe", participants express their disagreement with the current government's policies and concern that the country's leadership is preparing Slovakia's withdrawal from the European Union and NATO.
It is noted that the event in Bratislava is organised by the public initiative "Peace in Ukraine". It warns that the authorities are scaring Slovaks with an alleged coup d'état. The civic initiative emphasises that the protests are peaceful.
"They scare Slovaks with a coup d'état, but there will be no coup. They scare them with violent protests, but our protests are peaceful and dignified. They scare them because they know nothing else," the NGO said.
According to the organisers, the Fico government threatens Slovakia's future in a democratic and free Europe.
"Slovaks are well aware that the real threat to our homeland is the prime minister who is collaborating with our enemy... We will not allow authoritarian practices and pro-Russian propaganda to dominate our country," the organisers said.
The publication writes that protests are also taking place in several European capitals and in New York.
On 24 January, tens of thousands of people protested in a number of cities in Slovakia, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Robert Fico.
