Protests in Georgia continue for 5 days: police use water cannons and tear gas. VIDEO
Protests against the suspension of European integration are continuing in Georgia for the fifth day. The security forces use tear gas, and protesters use fireworks.
According to Censor.NET, DW and the BBC wrote about it.
Supporters of the country's rapprochement with the EU are holding rallies in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kobuleti, Ozurgeti and other cities of Georgia. According to a DW correspondent, tens of thousands of people took to the streets.
There were reports of violent arrests in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi. In response, protesters used pyrotechnics. Barricades were set up on Rustaveli Avenue. In protest, the protesters beat on the iron fence of the parliament, after which a water cannon was used.
Establishments close to the epicentre of the action treat the protesters to free coffee, soups and hot meals. Churches and shops are hiding activists who are being chased by special forces.
The Georgian Interior Ministry said it would use special means against those who clash with police.
"The ongoing rally on Rustaveli Avenue has gone beyond a peaceful assembly, so the Ministry of Internal Affairs will apply special measures provided for by law against members of the aggressive protest group in order to clear the area around the parliament building," the ministry said.
As a reminder, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said he was ready to sign an agreement to start negotiations on joining the European Union "even today" if the country received such a proposal.
