Ethan Hertweck, a United States citizen and veteran of the US Marine Legion, was killed near Avdiivka.

The funeral was attended by Ethan's parents. They are taking their son's body to the United States.

As reported by American TV journalist Steve Grant, Ethan Hertweck died while rescuing a wounded Ukrainian soldier from the battlefield. Initially, the man came to Ukraine to save lives. He obtained a combat medic's licence and taught first aid.

Later, Ethan Hertweck signed a contract with the Ukrainian Armed Forces and joined the 131st Special Reconnaissance Battalion "Witcher". Later, the American medic was transferred to the 59th Motorcycle Brigade. At the same time, he remained a combat medic for both the new brigade and the 131st battalion.

On 8 December, his brigade went on another military mission. An enemy attack began, and Ethan and another soldier remained to cover their group. They managed to eliminate up to 12 enemy soldiers and thus stop the enemy attack. The US hero was killed when he tried to evacuate his wounded comrade from the battlefield. On 19 December, Ethan Hertweck was due to return to the United States.
