A Russian agent who was preparing a terrorist attack was detained in the Odesa region.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press service.
"The terrorist was a 20-year-old drug addict from the Odesa region who was recruited by the FSB via a Telegram channel looking for 'easy' money. Following the instructions of a Russian special service officer, the agent purchased components from which he planned to make an IED and disguise it as a fire extinguisher.
The suspect was then supposed to leave the explosives at the address he was waiting for from the occupiers. After that, the racists planned to detonate the IED by calling a phone that was connected to the explosive device," the statement said.
Before the attack, the Russian supervisor instructed the agent to perform a "test" task: to set fire to a battery and relay cabinet on a strategic railway line in the Odesa region.
The SSU and the National Police exposed the Russian agent in advance, documented his activities, and detained him at his place of residence when he tried to get rid of the material evidence.
During the search, components for the manufacture of IEDs, including chemicals and a fire extinguisher with a mobile phone, were seized from him.
He has been served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 15 and Part 2 Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted sabotage under martial law). In addition, it is planned to additionally qualify his crimes under Part 1 Article 14, Part 2 Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation for a terrorist act).
The man is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
