The Security Service of Ukraine jointly with the National Police detained a 16-year-old agent of Russian special services who was planning a terrorist attack in the centre of Zhytomyr.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press service.
As noted, on the instructions of Russian curators, the young man made an improvised explosive device (IED) according to the instructions received, disguised it in a backpack and went to the city, being in constant contact with a Russian agent. The explosion was to be activated remotely upon notification of arrival.
"According to the investigation, the schoolboy made the IED himself according to instructions from a Russian supervisor. To disguise the explosives, he put them in a saucepan, and to enhance their destructive effect, he additionally stuffed the explosives with iron screws," the press service said.
The improvised explosive device was supposed to go off near the "Alley of Heroes' Glory'" on 28 February.
However, the SSU CI exposed the occupiers' plan and detained the offender red-handed on his way to the place of explosives installation.
Currently, the detainee is being served a notice of suspicion under Part 1 Article 14, Part 2 Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation to commit a terrorist act). He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
