He headed "Russian police" in occupied Nova Kakhovka: SSU detains traitor in Volyn region. PHOTO

A traitor was detained who, in the first months of Russia's full-scale invasion, headed the occupation "police" in Nova Kakhovka.

This was reported by the press service of the SSU, Censor.NET reports.

After his "release" in April 2022, the man was hiding in the EU and later returned to Ukraine under the guise of an ordinary citizen.

The man was detained in a temporary accommodation in Volyn, where he was trying to "lay low".

"The enemy's accomplice turned out to be a former security guard of the Novokakhovka private security company, who, after the capture of the city, cooperated with the enemy. He then agreed to head the local occupation 'police' to participate in the persecution of resistance members.

It was established that the traitor coordinated criminal activity with the so-called "military commandant of the Russian Federation" of the temporarily seized community. While in his "position", he attracted like-minded people to the ranks of the occupation body, with whom he further conducted repressions against Ukrainian patriots. To do this, the defendant posted patrols on the streets of the city and participated in raids on pro-Ukrainian activists," the statement said.

He was later released from the pseudo-institution. Then he went to the occupied Crimea, and from there, through third countries to the EU.

"At the end of 2024, the defendant returned to Ukraine and settled in the Volyn region, where he rented a house from a local resident. He was detained there by Ukrainian law enforcement officers.

The criminal actions are classified under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • p.3, Art. 28, Art. 111-1, para. 6 (collaboration activities committed by an organised group);
  • p.7 of Art. 111-1 (voluntary holding of a position by a citizen of Ukraine in illegal judicial or law enforcement bodies established in the temporarily occupied territory);
  • p.3, Art. 146 (illegal deprivation of liberty or abduction of a person committed by an organised group).

The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property," the SSU added.
