$12,000 for demobilisation: military unit official detained in Odesa. PHOTOS

In Odesa, a military unit official was detained for offering to influence members of the Military Medical Commission (MMC) and help individuals to military discharge in return for a bribe.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the Internal Security Department of the National Police.

The head of a structural unit of one of the military units in Odesa was exposed.

"In one of the cases, the offender offered a soldier his assistance in passing the military medical commission to determine his fitness for service. He claimed to have access to members of the commission and assured that he could easily "organise" the necessary diagnosis for demobilisation.

The military official estimated the cost of such assistance at $12,000. However, he promised to take up the case only after receiving half the amount as an advance payment. He expected to receive the remaining sum after resolving the issue," the statement said.

The man developed his own scheme for "safe" bribery. He gave the "client" a paper envelope and a package. He ordered to put money in the envelope and write a special abbreviation on it. After that, the serviceman had to leave the package with the money at the checkpoint under the guise of documents for another serviceman.

The operatives detained him and served him a notice of suspicion under Part 3 Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
