The Ministry of Defence held an interagency meeting on issues related to unauthorised abandonment of military units (AWOL) by servicemen.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press service of the Ministry.
The event was chaired by Deputy Minister Serhii Melnyk.
The event was attended by representatives of the Military Law Enforcement Service, the State Bureau of Investigation, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Social Policy, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, the Pension Fund of Ukraine, as well as heads of specialised structural units of the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The meeting discussed the root causes and issues of AWOL. Participants assessed its impact on military discipline and combat readiness, and considered effective mechanisms to prevent such offences.
"AWOL is a serious offence that undermines military discipline and negatively affects the combat capability of units. Preventing such cases is critical for maintaining law and order among the personnel, effectively performing combat missions and strengthening the country's defence capabilities," Melnyk said.
Particular attention was paid to measures that can deter unauthorised abandonment of units and ensure proper control.
