Law enforcers in Kharkiv region completed a pre-trial investigation against a native of Yevpatoria, who after 2015 lived in Belgorod, Russia, and was recruited by the Russian FSB to perform tasks in Ukraine.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press centre of the Prosecutor General's Office.
As noted, in February 2024, he arrived in Kharkiv, where he received his first task - the murder of a Ukrainian serviceman. On 5 March, the attacker shot the soldier in the back near a residential building. The victim died on the spot.
Subsequently, the defendant personally blew up strategic facilities in the city and received a new task - to eliminate the head of the Derhachi CMA. In October 2024, he planted explosives under the official's car, but the latter detected the danger in time and contacted the police.
The next target was supposed to be the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, for whose murder the Russian special services promised a reward of $50,000. However, fearing exposure, the defendant abandoned the attempt to implement the plan.
In addition, the man set fire to two military vehicles. He was detained in October 2024 on a train when he was trying to escape from Kharkiv and go into hiding.
The prosecutor's office charges him with high treason, murder, attempted murder, terrorist act, sabotage, as well as illegal possession of weapons and explosives under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including Article 111(2)(6), Article 115(2)(11), Article 258(2), etc. He is currently in custody without the possibility of bail.
