Cherkasy region deputy mayor exposed for trying to close criminal case for $5,000
The deputy of one of the city mayors in Cherkasy region was exposed for providing an unlawful benefit to the head of one of the departments of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Cherkasy region for making a decision to close a criminal proceeding in which he is a suspect.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press centre of the Prosecutor General's Office.
As noted, the man was detained while transferring 5,000 US dollars.
What did the investigation establish?
Within the criminal proceedings, it was established that the suspect, while serving as director of a municipal enterprise of the city council, from 2020 to 2025, allowed the systematic disposal of solid household waste outside the landfill, on an adjacent land plot covering more than 4.5 hectares.
As a result of these actions, the land was littered and polluted, creating a hazard to the environment, and the state suffered material damage of more than UAH 6 million.
What are the consequences?
The official has been notified of suspicion of providing unlawful benefits, land pollution and official negligence, which caused serious consequences (Part 1 of Article 239, Part 2 of Article 367, Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
A preventive measure has been chosen for the suspect.
