A group of employees of the Darnytsia locomotive depot who stole fuel from diesel locomotives has been exposed.

It was established that the group was organised by a locomotive driver from the Darnytsia depot, who involved several other employees in the illegal activity.

The roles were clearly dividedamong the participants: fuel theft, logistics, sales, accounting for stolen goods, communication with customers, "shadow accounting", and distribution of funds, according to Censor.NET.

Details of the scheme

"Under martial law, any actions aimed at illegally seizing fuel from locomotives are not just theft, but deliberate interference in the work of critical state infrastructure. The railway provides transportation of military cargo, humanitarian aid, evacuation of the population, and economic stability. Every litre of fuel is a resource that contributes to the country's defence capability and life support," the National Police said.

The perpetrators drained diesel fuel from the tanks of ChME3 series locomotives used for shunting operations at the Darnytsia and Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi stations. As a rule, this took place at night or early in the morning. The fuel was drained into canisters, stored in specially designated places, and once every three days, transported in a specially equipped vehicle to their own garages. The diesel fuel was then sold for cash.

During the investigation, at least 10 cases of fuel theft were documented. To conceal their criminal activities, the suspects entered fictitious information into official reporting and accounting documentation.

Law enforcement officers conducted several dozen searches of the suspects' storage, living, and working places in the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv regions, and the city of Kyiv. They seized diesel fuel, rough notes, vehicles, documentation, mobile phones, and other material evidence.

Based on the evidence gathered, two suspects have been notified of suspicion of embezzlement, misappropriation of property, or acquisition of property through abuse of official position.

The issue of preventive measures is being decided. After the necessary procedural actions have been taken, a decision will be made on notifying other participants in the scheme of the suspicions.

The article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 8 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
