The Security Service and National Police detained a Russian agent who carried out a terrorist attack in Odesa on the morning of 16 February this year.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press centre.

Details of the terrorist attack

According to the case file, the perpetrator made a homemade bomb and placed it under the bottom of an SUV parked near the entrance to an apartment building.

As a result of the explosion, the owner of the vehicle, who was nearby, was injured.

"The investigation established that the terrorist attack was prepared by a 33-year-old unemployed man recruited by the enemy, who came to the attention of the Russians while searching for 'easy money' on Telegram channels," the statement said.

Recruitment and instructions from the Russian Federation

After being recruited, the agent received detailed instructions from his handler in Russia on how to make a homemade explosive device (HED) from improvised means.

The suspect purchased the components for the bomb in hardware stores. He then made explosives from them, which he equipped with a mobile phone for remote detonation.

The agent then conducted reconnaissance at the site of the planned terrorist attack, placed the IED under a car and set up a camouflaged smartphone nearby. The occupiers used it to monitor the situation around the "target" and carried out a remote detonation.

During a search of the detainee's place of residence, components for the manufacture of IEDs and smartphones, which he used to contact his Russian supervisor, were seized.
