Police detained a man who burned seven cars in the capital on order.

He burned cars for money
The suspect agreed to burn cars belonging to the country's defence forces for money. In several cases, in order to get money, he set fire to civilian cars, disguising them as military vehicles. He faces up to ten years in prison for his actions.
Operatives from the Solomianskyi Police Department, together with employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kyiv Police Headquarters, exposed a man who, from December 2025 to early January 2026, destroyed seven cars in the district by setting them on fire.
Who was the arsonist?
According to law enforcement officials, the perpetrator is a 35-year-old local resident who had previously been convicted of property crimes.
The investigation established that an unknown person contacted the offender via messenger and offered him money to set fire to military vehicles. As a result, the suspect used a flammable substance to set fire to seven cars in the Solomianskyi district.
"In the last two episodes, in an effort to obtain funds, the suspect found civilian business-class cars, removed their license plates, replaced them with military ones, set them on fire, and filmed the arson for the customer," the statement said.
Detention
Police detained the suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During a search of his residence, law enforcement officers seized a number of pieces of evidence confirming his involvement in a series of arson attacks.
Investigators informed the man that he was suspected of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional destruction or damage to property by arson. The most severe penalty under this article is up to ten years' imprisonment.
