An 18-year-old man was planning a series of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv on behalf of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the SSU press service, according to Censor.NET.
Details
The young man was to manufacture homemade explosive devices and plant them near the city’s administrative buildings.
"Subsequently, Russian special services agents planned to remotely detonate the bombs during rush hour using calls to mobile phones fitted with explosives," the statement said.
The SSU foiled the enemy’s plans in time and caught the agent red-handed in a rented flat whilst he was making the IEDs.
Who was working for the enemy?
The task was carried out by an 18-year-old drug addict, whom the enemy recruited via a Telegram channel while he was looking for "easy money for a fix".
Following instructions from a handler in Russia, the agent purchased components for homemade bombs and began manufacturing them using materials at hand.
During searches of the detainee’s temporary residence, 2.5 litres of chemical liquid, electrical components for detonation, and a smartphone containing evidence of collaboration with the occupiers were seized.
He has now been charged under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 5 of Article 27, and Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding and abetting the preparation of a terrorist act, committed by a group of persons acting in concert).
The young man is in custody and faces up to 12 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
