In Kyiv, four members of a criminal gang have been charged with importing cars into Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid for the military, and subsequently selling them through car dealerships.
This was announced by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to Censor.NET.
What is known?
The scheme utilised the details of charitable foundations.
"At customs, the cars were registered as humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so they were exempt from customs duties. In reality, the cars were not handed over to the military, but were sold through car dealerships and advertised on social media.
More than 3,000 cars were imported into Ukraine in this way. During searches, the foundations’ documents and eight cars were seized," the report states.
Four suspects have been detained. The court has ordered them to be held in custody pending trial, with the option of bail. For the two organisers, bail has been set at 6.6 million hryvnias each.
The investigation is ongoing.
