Staff at the State Bureau of Investigations have launched a large-scale operation called ‘Justice for the Fighters’.
This was reported by the Bureau’s press office, according to Censor.NET.
Details of the operation
The aim is to expose military personnel who are only nominally on active duty, who are illegally receiving payments or who are effectively working in the private interests of their commanders.
"Particular attention is being paid to cases where subordinates are involved in construction, maintenance and other private work instead of carrying out their military duties," the statement noted.
The operation is being carried out in cooperation with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Dozens of searches
Investigative measures are being carried out in various regions of Ukraine. In total, 72 searches are planned as part of 21 criminal proceedings.
"The majority of the proceedings concern the unlawful calculation and receipt of benefits. Fifty-eight searches are being carried out in 12 such proceedings. Based on their results, it is planned to notify 20 individuals that they are under suspicion.
A further five searches are being carried out in a case concerning the illegal use of military personnel. Nine are taking place in a case of corruption, in which charges are being prepared against two suspects.
"In total, following the operation, it is planned to serve notices of suspicion on 22 individuals," the statement reads.
The Bureau also stated that it had completed investigations into a further four criminal cases concerning illegal payments to military personnel. Indictments against 16 individuals are set to be sent to court.
In addition, the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has completed investigations into a further four criminal cases concerning illegal payments to military personnel. Indictments against 16 individuals are set to be referred to court.
"Detailed results of this operation will be made public once the initial investigative measures have been completed. The State Bureau of Investigation will continue to carry out such comprehensive operations in cooperation with the military command," the Bureau stated.
Other operations
- On the morning of 30 July, officers from the State Bureau of Investigations launched large-scale inspections at regional and district-level recruitment and social support centres as part of Operation ‘Honest Conscription’, which the Bureau is conducting jointly with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
