In Zhytomyr, a funeral was held for the police officers who were killed in a Russian attack.
This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the National Police’s communications department.
As noted, on 21 August, family and loved ones, colleagues and friends, as well as residents of the city and the region, bid farewell to Yulia Yevdokimova, Artem Zubchuk and Svitlana Savchenko.
Circumstances of the tragedy
Three police officers lost their lives as a result of an enemy rocket-propelled drone strike on the administrative building of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region.
Yulia and Artem died at the scene of the attack. Svitlana died the following day in hospital as a result of her severe injuries.
Police Lieutenant-Colonel Yulia Yevdokimova had served in the internal affairs agencies for almost 15 years. She began her career in the patrol service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region. In 2018, Yulia became assistant to the head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region. Everyone knew her as a responsible, competent, compassionate and attentive person.
Her husband has been left without his beloved wife, and her parents without their dear daughter.
Police Captain Artem Zubchuk joined the Kyiv Patrol Police in 2017. In March 2024, he became an operational officer with the Strategic Investigations Department in the Zhytomyr Region of the Strategic Investigations Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine. Brave, principled, a reliable comrade with a sharp mind and quick reflexes – this is how Artem will always be remembered by his colleagues and loved ones.
His father has been left without a reliable source of support and comfort; his wife has been left without a husband; and his 8-year-old son has been left without a father.
Police Lieutenant-Colonel Svitlana Savchenko devoted 25 years to serving in the internal affairs agencies. In November 2018, she began working at the Strategic Investigations Department in Zhytomyr Oblast, and in 2025 she was appointed to the post of senior investigating officer for particularly important cases. Always sincere and determined, she carried out her work professionally and never refused to help people.
An irreparable loss has befallen the police family; Svitlana’s parents are in deep mourning, and her 18-year-old son has been left without a mother.
Artem Zubchuk and Svitlana Savchenko were laid to rest in the Walk of Fame at the Korbutiv Cemetery in Zhytomyr. The interment of Yulia Yevdokimova’s urn will take place on 27 August.
"Russia killed them: Yulia was 39, Artem was 32, and Svitlana was 42. They will remain in the ranks forever," the National Police emphasised.
