Officers of the State Bureau of Investigation, working jointly with the Security Service of Ukraine and with the assistance of the National Guard leadership, detained a serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region who, according to investigators, stole weapons from his military unit and sold them.

The serviceman’s unit is carrying out combat missions in the Kharkiv region. Having access to weapons, he decided to sell some of them to make extra money. The suspect planned to continue writing off the stolen property as allegedly lost during combat operations.
The serviceman sold the first batch of stolen items for UAH 90,000. It included 40 drones, anti-tank mine bodies and fuzes.
Several weeks later, he decided to sell significantly more expensive weapons. This time, he put four ground robotic systems and eight anti-tank mines up for sale. He valued the batch at UAH 1 million.
Law enforcement officers documented both instances of the illegal sale of weapons. The serviceman was detained after receiving UAH 1 million.
During searches, officers also seized other military equipment that had been prepared for sale.
Following the necessary investigative procedures, all seized weapons will be promptly transferred to the Defence Forces for their intended use.
The serviceman has been notified of suspicion of the illegal acquisition, possession and sale of firearms and ammunition, as well as the theft of military property by an official under martial law.
The charges carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
Investigators are also examining the possible involvement of other servicemen in the scheme.
