An investigation has been completed in the Kharkiv region into nine Russian servicemen accused of carrying out at least 14 chemical attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces positions. Seven Ukrainian servicemen were injured as a result of the use of chemical munitions.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
"According to the investigation, between September 2024 and June 2025, near the village of Tykhe in the Chuhuiv district, servicemen from the 136th Separate Guards Motorised Rifle Brigade of the 58th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces systematically dropped chemical munitions from UAVs onto Ukrainian positions. As a result of the attacks, seven Ukrainian servicemen suffered poisoning and respiratory tract damage," the statement reads.
Among the nine Russian servicemen who have been notified of the charges against them are the brigade commander, the head of the radiological, chemical and biological defence service, the commander of the reconnaissance battalion, two reconnaissance company commanders, the commander of the UAV platoon, and three drone operators.
According to the investigation, it was the brigade commander who made the decision to use chemical weapons. The head of the RCB defence service and the reconnaissance battalion commander supplied the units with K-51 and RG-Vo grenades containing hazardous chemical substances.
The grenades were dropped from drones onto the positions of Ukrainian troops
Upon receiving combat orders, the commanders of the reconnaissance companies organised their execution. The UAV operators, in turn, dropped the chemical grenades directly onto the positions of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
According to the investigation, the aim of these attacks was to poison and disorientate Ukrainian servicemen, render them incapable of resistance, and subsequently exploit their helpless state during assaults.
At least 14 incidents have been identified
Law enforcement agencies have identified 14 instances of the use of prohibited means of warfare in 2024–2025. At least seven Ukrainian servicemen were injured as a result of the chemical attacks.
In February 2026, all nine Russian military personnel were charged in absentia. The pre-trial investigation established the roles of each of the suspects in organising and directly carrying out the attacks.
