Explosions occurred in the Murmansk region of Russia in the area where the Russian Northern Fleet base is located.

This was reported by Censor.NET.

On Wednesday evening, residents of Murmansk and Severomorsk, 12 km away, posted on social media about two powerful explosions that could be felt several tens of kilometres away. One of the explosions was caught on video.

According to the footage, the explosion could have occurred at one of the facilities of the main naval base of the Russian Northern Fleet.

The Norwegian edition of The Barents Observer notes that 13 km from the shooting site is the "Severomorsk-1" military airfield, where fighter-jets, bombers and Ka-27 helicopter squadrons are based. There is an open weapons depot 11 km away, and to the northwest of "Severomorsk-1" are several installations with mobile anti-aircraft missiles and antennas for electronic warfare. In addition, there is the closed military airfield "Severomorsk-2" between Severomorsk and Murmansk, which began to be restored in early 2024.
