In Lviv, 19-year-old boy damaged Hanukkah menorah: police detained criminal. VIDEO

On Wednesday, January 1, on Valova Street in Lviv, an unknown person damaged a Hanukkah menorah installed on the ruins of a synagogue. Law enforcement officers detained the suspect the next day.

This was reported by the Communication Department of the Lviv Regional Police, Censor.NET reports.

It is noted that he was a 19-year-old local resident who was in a state of intoxication at the time of the violation.

In the video, which was shared on local telegram channels, a man approached the Hanukkah and damaged the cable that powered the seven-candle lamp with electricity, after which it went out. A man could be heard laughing behind the scenes. The attacker fled after the incident.

The next day, the  criminal was exposed and detained by law enforcement.

The issue of serving the man with a notice of suspicion of damaging religious buildings or places of worship is currently being decided. The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of a fine of 1000 to 4000 tax-free minimum incomes, or community service for a term of 60 to 240 hours, or probationary supervision for a term of up to three years, or restriction of liberty for a term of up to three years, or imprisonment for the same term.

In addition, the procedural status of other participants who were nearby and filmed the incident is being decided. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
