US President Donald Trump has said that Russia's war against Ukraine could be ended quickly if the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries slashes prices.
He said this during a conversation with journalists, according to Reuters, Censor.NET reports.
One of the ways to end the war quickly is for OPEC to stop making so much money and drop oil prices... and this war will stop immediately," Trump said.
He said the war was a tragedy for both Ukraine and Russia.
The head of the White House also reiterated that he would not have allowed Russia's invasion of Ukraine if he had become president of the United States earlier.
"A frightening number of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are dying in this war. Many people are also dying in the bombing of cities right now. The losses are thousands of people every week. This is insanity. This is a crazy war. This would never have happened if I had been president before," Trump added.
It should be noted that the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is an international intergovernmental organisation established by oil exporting countries to control oil production quotas. OPEC member countries control about 2/3 of the world's oil reserves.
They account for ~35% of global production and half of global oil exports.
The day before, US President Donald Trump said he wanted to reach an agreement with Saudi Arabia and OPEC to reduce oil prices, which could "instantly" stop the Russian-Ukrainian war.
