The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved the appointment of Yurii Lutsenko to the post of Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
264 lawmakers voted for the relevant draft resolution No. 4654 with 226 votes required for its adoption, Censor.NET reports.
Earlier, the parliamentary paper Holos Ukrainy published the Law on the Prosecutor General's Office which changed the specification of candidates. The law was adopted by 258 votes today.
The draft law stipulates that a candidate for the post of the prosecutor general must have a university degree, not necessarily a law one, and at least a five-year employment history in the field of law or the legislative and/or law enforcement body. The candidate must also have a good command of the state language, high moral and professional qualities, and organizational skills.
It should be reminded that President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said in an interview to Ukrainian TV channels on April 3 that he had signed a decree on dismissal of Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin.
