"We have a lot of people in Cuba. We have the CIA there. As you know, Marco's parents (U.S. Secretary of State Rubio—Ed.) are from there. We will help the Cuban people. We are liberating Cuba," he said.
Will there be an escalation?
Trump was also asked whether tensions with Cuba would escalate.
"No. There won't be an escalation. I don't think it's necessary. Look, everything is falling apart. It's chaos, and they (the Cubans — Ed.) seem to have lost control," the U.S. leader added.
What is known about the tensions between the countries
Relations between the United States and Cuba have been deteriorating recently.
Earlier, U.S. media reported that the U.S. Department of Justice is preparing charges against former Cuban President Raúl Castro in connection with the 1996 incident in which two civilian aircraft were shot down.
