Russian dry cargo ship attacked by drone drifted towards Turkey and ran aground near Istanbul. VIDEO

The Russian dry cargo ship OMSKIY-107, damaged following a drone attack in the Black Sea, was swept by the waves towards the Turkish coast. The vessel, with its bridge severely damaged and burnt out, eventually ran aground near Alacali Beach in the Şile district of Istanbul Province.

According to Censor.NET, citing the Turkish news agency DHA, eyewitnesses spotted the vessel drifting towards the shore, after which coastguard units were dispatched to the scene.

The crew abandoned the vessel following the attack

Turkish services arriving at the scene cordoned off the area where the dry cargo ship was stranded and began investigating the circumstances of the incident.

During the inspection, it emerged that the bridge of the OMSKIY-107 had been burnt out and sustained serious damage. According to DHA, following the attack, the crew members abandoned the dry cargo ship in lifeboats.

The exact date of the strike is currently unknown. Russian media had previously reported that the OMSKIY-107 had been attacked by a drone in the Black Sea near Novorossiysk.

The vessel flies the Russian flag

The OMSKIY-107 flies the Russian flag and is registered at the port of Taganrog. Recently, the dry cargo ship has been transporting cargo between ports in southern Russia and Turkey.

Turkish authorities are currently investigating the circumstances under which the damaged vessel drifted towards the coast and ran aground.
